However, in the months of December through March, PSL offers surf lesson packages for fun-loving people who want to LEARN TO SURF or CONTINUE LEARNING from the beginning stages with the PSL team. PSL’s BEGINNER package is geared for guests who have never surfed before or who have tried it and want to improve!! Our 7-night BEGINNER’s package offers surf instruction starting with the very basics – this is for anyone who has ever wanted to learn to surf and is also looking for some guaranteed fun and sun to escape the winter months. We invite you to join us for an amazing surfing experience while enjoying a truly authentic cultural experience in Nicaragua.
PSL’s Beginner’s Surfing Package
Included in Popoyo Surf Lodge 7-night BEGINNER’s surf package:
- Airport transfers from Managua or the Nica-CR border.
- All-day surf lessons with a certified PSL surf instructor. Normally, two sessions of 3-4 hours
- Surfboard, leash, and wax (apoxy soft top boards suitable for lessons)
- 3 healthy meals per day prepared fresh in the PSL kitchen. Veggie/Gluten options available
- Unlimited purified water
- 2 sodas per day
- Deluxe casita (with AC, private bath, and separate living room /bed room with full-sized beds) or private cabina (for solo surfers), Free Wi-Fi,
- Popoyo Surf Lodge is the only facility in the area with a generator that powers the whole lodge, so you will never lose wifi or have sleepless nights without AC or power.
- Day trips out to see local sites. Volcanos, zip lining, cloud forest, or the colonial city of Granada. (PSL covers guide and transpo, guest is responsible for meals, entry fees, etc)

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT DURING YOUR STAY AT POPOYO SURF LODGE:
At Popoyo Surf Lodge, our clients are our top priority. We understand that your vacation time is valuable. Our surf instructors plan each day carefully to ensure clients have fun and learn to surf on waves appropriate to their skill level. If you are a beginner or want to improve your skills, our surf instructors are highly experienced at teaching and helping surfers improve their technique. There are several surf breaks in the area that are excellent for beginners, and as the week progresses, clients can move on to more challenging breaks if they so desire. Lessons start on the beach, focusing on balance, technique, and proper position on the surfboard. Understanding the ocean and waves is almost as important as learning to use a surfboard properly. Our instructors will focus on these two skills and progress onwards throughout the week.
Become a SURFER at PSL!
Your journey learning to become a surfer starts with your instructors. All of our instructors at PSL are very experienced local surfers, speak English, and have been a part of the PSL team for years. There are four different waves , all in unique and beautiful settings, that are excellent for learning to surf. Your surf instructors will chose which waves to practice on for both daily sessions based on tides, swell size, and how well the group is doing. Our goal is to teach you to paddle well, duck dive, catch waves on your own, and ultimately stand up and surf.
ABOUT POPOYO SURF LODGE:
Popoyo Surf Lodge has been open since 1999. Please take some time to familiarize your self with the rest of our website to see photos of the lodge and learn a bit more about us in general. We have made the decision to expand our operations to include SURF LESSONS for December through March. We have had so many people reach out to us that want to learn to surf, however, we have always felt that in the spring and summer months the waves can be just too big and powerful to truly offer surf lessons safely, but the smaller conditions are ideal for beginners December through March. So we have decided to share the sport of surfing with adventurous individuals who love the ocean and would like to visit Nicaragua. And hopefully, you will leave PSL ready to plan your trip back to enjoy PSL’s world famous HARDCORE surf package!!
PACKAGE NOTES:
* Beginners Surf Package is only offered December through March
* Shorter or longer stays than 7 nights are available upon request.
* PSL offers a day trip out to see some of the amazing sites in Nicaragua. PSL Covers cost of the trucks and guide, guest is responsible for all meals off PSL property, entry fees into Parks, etc.
* Surfing is an extreme sport and excellent swimming skills are required to safely learn to surf. There are no refunds on days lost if guest can not swim or is not comfortable in the ocean nor is PSL or any of its employees responsible for any injuries that might occur while at Popoyo Surf Lodge, in its trucks, or in the ocean. We highly recommend travel insurance.
WHAT TO BRING:

- Lots of Sunscreen
- Spring Suit or Wetsuit top ** This is a must as water temps can be in mid 70s.
- Flip Flops

- For women: comfortable swim suits that the ocean and waves can not pull off
